Tonight sees the last of the FA Cup third round fixtures finalised when Liverpool discover who out of Newport County or Plymouth Argyle, will be their visitors on Sunday 8th January to Anfield.
Newport will be heading into this match as the underdogs after losing their two previous matches since clinching a draw at Plymouth in the second round.
Graham Westley will be looking to get a result despite languishing at the bottom of the football league. He will be pleased to have top scorer, Rhys Healey ready to start after being benched for the whole of Saturday’s defeat at Crawley.
Plymouth boss, Derek Adams has a fully fit squad to choose from except for defender Ben Purrington, who faces a late fitness test. The Pilgrims will be heading to Rodney Parade hoping to make it four unbeaten games in all competitions. They can’t go there too confident or the Welsh side will hit them on the counter and it could then be game over.
The weather is however a major concern with heavy rain due mid afternoon before easing off. The fact that a cover has been used to protect the pitch from torrential weather is going to make things very different, especially for the home side.
Taking all the factors into account, I think we are going to have a tight match on our hands and an unusually dry pitch will make things more open for both teams.
Prediction: Newport 0-1 Plymouth Argyle
Result: Newport 0-1 Plymouth Argyle (AET)
